Credit card holders love to earn rewards in any way possible. And the most popular reward programs feature many ways to redeem points for cash back, merchandise, or travel. Yet when it comes to merchandise awards, many of these programs offer a limited selection of merchants and cardholders can only redeem points for gift cards rather than the exact amount of their purchase.

Such is not the case with Chase credit cards, as Chase has just introduced Amazon.com as a redemption partner for their Ultimate Rewards program. Now, any sign-up bonus given out in the form of Chase Ultimate Rewards points can be redeemed for any purchase made on Amazon.com.  Cardholders must simply complete a one to two minute registration process at Amazon.com to use points.

And, because the Chase Sapphire Preferred card offers a 40,000 Ultimate Rewards point sign up bonus, consumers can get $400 to spend on Amazon just for meeting the sign up bonus requirements. Compared to this deal Amazon coupon codes are pretty lame.

Earning $400 to Spend on Amazon.com

Chase offers Ultimate Rewards points for several of its credit cards including its Freedom, the standard Sapphire, and Sapphire Preferred cards (see below for specific card details). These cards offer varying sign up bonus offers. For example, the Freedom and standard Sapphire cards offer 10,000 Ultimate Rewards points after customers spend $500 within three months of opening an account.

These points can be transferred for up to $100 worth of credit with Amazon.com. The primary reason to opt for these $100 offers is that both Freedom and the standard Sapphire card charge no annual fees and require minimal spending to obtain the sign up bonus.

However, especially given the time of year, obtaining an additional $300 to spend at Amazon.com via Sapphire Proffered may be the best option. With this card, applicants must spend $3,000 within three months to obtain the 40,000 Ultimate Rewards point bonus offered.

The drawback to Sapphire Preferred is that it does carry a $95 annual fee. However, this fee is waived for the first year. Thus, Sapphire Preferred – and its $400 bonus – is free to try for one year. If you determine the benefits are worth the expense, then still won’t pay a dime in fees for a year. On the other hand, if you believe the fee outweighs the benefits of card-membership you can cancel anytime and still enjoy a nice shopping spree at Amazon.
