Discover balance transfer credit cards provide some of the best 0% APR balance transfer deals. The reason I consider Discover to be a superior company for balance transfers lay in the fact that they are the most transparent credit card company when it comes to special introductory rates. For example, the current trend among most major credit card companies is to offer tiered pricing. With tiered pricing, the credit card company advertises a 0% APR for 1 year, but may only grant approved applicants a 0% rate for as little as 6 months. With Discover balance transfer offers, consumers who are approved are given a 0% rate for the period advertised.
Perhaps more importantly, Discover is one of the few companies that treats its customers well. During 2009, while many major credit card companies were raising rates on cardholders, Discover took the high road and did not impose massive rate increases. About Discover Balance Transfers |
Discover Card balance transfer offers aren’t always the longest 0% APR balance transfer deals and sometimes they charge slightly higher balance transfer fees than other companies. However, while most credit card companies were raising interest rates on customers during the credit crisis, Discover largely refrained.
A key reason why Discover balance transfers are among the best overall 0% balance transfer offers for customers is how well they treat their cardholders in the long run. In the past, it was easy to bounce from one balance transfer credit card to another when 0% interest rates expired. Since the credit crisis, credit card companies have pulled back on balance transfer offers and made it more difficult to get approved. Thus, the next balance transfer you do may be the last one you have the chance of doing for some time.
Because of this, it is important to choose a good credit card company when you select a balance transfer card, not just the longest 0% rate. Discover balance transfers are very competitive with other offers, but in the long run, their customer service and history of treating customers well makes them a better option for people who know they will need a few years to pay down their credit card bills. Since 2007, I have been strongly recommending Discover, and no one comes back to complain about Discover balance transfer offers. I can’t say that about other credit card companies.
