delta-skymiles-credit-cardsLufthansa is an exceptional carrier in many ways. They offer plenty of service to countries around the world, including both large and medium sized markets within the United States. Once on board, their First and Business class products are impressive, and even their economy class service is highly competitive.

In addition, Lufthansa is one of the few foreign carriers to offer a co-branded credit card to American citizens and residents. Now, its Lufthansa Premier Miles & More card also features one of the top promotional financing offers available in a reward card.

Details of the promotional financing offer

New cardholders are offered 15 months of interest free financing on balance transfers with a 3% balance transfer fee. What is also interesting about this offer is that any balance transfers made during the first 15 months of a new account will qualify for the 0% APR and the 3% balance transfer fee. After the promotional financing offer expires, the balance transfer fee will rise to 4%, and the APR will be 15.99% or 24.99%, depending on the applicant’s credit worthiness at the time of the application. In contrast, many other similar promotional financing offers require that qualifying balance transfers be completed within two to four months of opening the account.

Information about the rewards program

With this offer, new cardholders receive 20,000 bonus miles after their first purchases, and up to 15,000 additional miles after completing a balance transfer. Two award miles are earned for each dollar spent on airlines that are part of the Miles and More program. These carriers include not only Lufthansa, but Adria Airways, AirDolomiti, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa Regional, Lufthansa Private Jet, Luxair, and SWISS.

Miles and More awards can also be issued for flights on Star Alliance carriers, which includes United, US Airways, Air Canada, and many others. Note that many of these award do require fuel surcharges. Thankfully, their miles never expire.

Other details about this card

There is a $79 annual fee for this card, but that is waived for those who hold Senator and HON Circle status in the Miles and More program. There is a 1% foreign transaction fee with this card, but that is less than the 3% charged by most other cards.

It is rare that a credit card offers both a compelling rewards program and a leading balance transfer offer, but this is one of them. For cardholders who need to retire debt, and want to earn rewards, this card is a win-win.
