One of the features that distinguish the American Express Platinum card from other products is their Preferred Access program. Through this set of benefits, card members can not only gain tickets to events that are sold out, but they can receive premium seating and even attend members-only events that are otherwise not for sale.
How This Benefit Works
Platinum card holders receive special access to a wide range of experiences. By logging into their account online, they can browse By Invitation Only events with exclusive access such as the Aspen Food and Wine Festival and the Wimbledon tennis tournament. Platinum Dining Reservations allows cardmembers to secure scarce reservations at some of the more trendy, up-scale restaurants.
Their Premium Seats Program offers cardholders the best seats to sports entertainment events in New York and Los Angeles. Premium Access provides advanced tickets and preferred seating to events around the country including VIP packages at concerts. In fact, card holders can even redeem their Membership Rewards points instead of paying cash. Cardmembers also receive exclusive access to Departures Magazine which covers the high-end travel, style, culture, and dining scenes.
How These Experiences Feel
I was able to attend some of the exclusive events offered by American Express on a weekend trip to New York City. The Tribeca Film festival was featured first. Members were welcomed at New York’s renowned Centrico restaurant, which was closed to the general public for this event. Following the dinner reception, cardholders attended an exclusive screening of the premier of Side by Side, a documentary produced by Keanu Reeves. After the film, the audience had a chance to ask questions of Chris Kenneally, the director, and Justin Szlasa, the co-producer.
That same weekend, cardholders had access to the Broadway show The Best Man, written by famed playwright Gore. The production featured such stars as James Earl Jones, John Larroquette, Candace Bergen, and Angela Landsbury. Despite the small venue and the limited number of seats, Platinum cardholders will still able to secure premium tickets after the show had sold out to the general public. Throughout the weekend, it was readily apparent that the “exclusive access” that American Express advertises is a tangible benefit. Platinum cardholders were truly able to have unforgettable evenings that would otherwise be out of reach. By offering preferred access to a high level of dining and events, the American Express Platinum card has positioned itself as the premier luxury charge card.
