Abby,

You should be able to cancel the card to avoid the fee. I have never heard anything good about Juniper, so you'll likely be much better off with a different credit card anyhow. Hope this helps.

I have been with Juniper company as a credit card holder for years. To my surprise, I got a letter from Juniper yesterday that as from August, 2010, I will pay annual fee of $79 which was never in my contract at the beginning. I have not been paying annual fee. I have never been late paying my bills, so I don't know why they should do this. Is their a law against this? What should I do?

Well, the fact that we never had a discover card, didnt know my brother obtained my ss, birthdate, and other info I dont see why Discover is harassing us.
We only found out about it by accident then called discover to see if it was true, tried to work with them and go no where. I am waiting on the detective to file the charges against my brother.

Helen,

I sympathize with you on this issue and am sorry you have had such difficulty. I believe any credit card company would likely handle this the same way and am a bit surprised that Discover has not been easier to deal with.

If you reported the unauthorized charges during the proper time period, you should be cover under the card's fraud liability. I am not sure if you discovered the issue too late for this, but that should be the main avenue for recourse. If it is too late, then unfortunately you will likely have to seek recourse from your brother.

You are in an unfortunate situation and I hope you are able to negotiate a fair resolution.

Discover sent a card to my brother, at his home, he used his bank account to pay it. When I found out I reported it to Discover, the credit reporting agancies, sent certified letters, made a police report, and put a cc fraud alert on my creidt. We sent certified letters to every one and anyone including Discover. Discover hounds me daily, calls my boss, we actually got let go because of the harassing calls even though they were told dont call work. They chase us, hound us, harass us and do absalutly nothing about my brother!! They are mean and hurtful people at Discover, they do not want to listen, they do not care where they sent the bill, who got the card as long as the person on the card pays for it! I blame discover, all they had to do was an address check and see what bank account the payments were being made from and they would have seen it was not me. But they dont want to help us, they want paid, and I am not paying for what some one else did to us, my credit is ruined, my job is at risk, and no one hears me.....especally discover.

Thomas,

I've yet to hear a positive think about Juniper bank credit cards or Barclay's. Nothing but bad news from customers who deal with them.

I have been a customer of Juniper bank for years, My credit is excellent. My card was to expire in 2012, but they canceled my card and ALL OF MY EARNED POINTS, without warning

they continually are late posting my payments also. Payment on line are credited to all the other businesses within a few days, Juniper takes a week or more.

Stay away from Juniper Bank (Barclay's) they are not to be trusted.

I will email you my response. You definitely need to just pay the $16.50. If you do not, Chase will report you as delinquent, charge late fees, and probably send the account to collection. This is standard practice with all banks and you can avoid a huge headache by just paying them off. If you don't, it will likely end up costing you a lot more money and damaging your credit score pretty bad.

Also, this is more for other readers, but it is never a good idea to close your account just because you are angry. This can really hurt your credit score, unless you keep a small balance on the card when you close it. For more on why you shouldn't close and pay off credit card accounts when angry, please see the article Don't Pay off Closed Credit Card Accounts.

Last March, after month in which I suffered for a very serious illness, I realized I was late on the payment of a few of my bills. I always pay on time the full amount, but because my illness I had overlooked my payments. My debt with Chase credit card started in January with $20.00. By March, because of the late fee charged I owned the company $53. On March 25 I called them and explained why I was late and asked if, please, they could wave the late fees. After consulting with someone, they agreed to wave the last of the fee for the amount of $6.50. Over the phone,I paid the reminder and thought that the matter was close. Then, yesterday, I received another statement telling me I was late with the payment of $16.50. I called the company again and told them that there was a mistake. I asked to speak to a manager. No one recognized that I hadn't paid the $16.50 because I had been told it was waved. Now, after one hour on the phone, I was kindly told that they cannot wave the amount because of the company policy. I told them to cancel my account and that I would advertise on the Internet about how compassionate the company is. The good manager told me I was free to do what I wanted but they preferred to cancel my account and I still had to pay the $16.50. What can you tell me about this situation? Should I pay the amount no matter what? What would be the consequences if I do not pay?

Cel,

If you are being mistreated by a credit card company, you would want to file a complaint with the FTC. The same is true with a collection agency. Plus, you should also file complaints with your state attorney general and the attorney general in the state where the bank is domiciled.
