The Best Balance Transfer Offer

Over the last five years, I’ve seen the credit card industry undergo a number of changes. And, when it comes to balance transfers, most of these changes have not been good for consumers.  No fee balance transfer offers have disappeared, balance transfer fees have gone up, and new tricks have appeared in the fine print of many credit cards.

As a result of these changes, helping people find the best balance transfer credit card has become a lot more difficult.

Recently, some credit card companies have begun offering very long 0% balance transfer deals. However, many of these offers don’t last as long as advertised. For example, some cards advertise 0% rates that last 18 months, but applicants can wind up with a card that only has a 0% rate for 7 months. Because of this, I consider the Discover® More® Card to be the best balance transfer offer, as it offers offers a 0% APR for a FULL 15 months to all approved applicants. The main drawback to this offer is that very good to excellent credit is required for approval.

Now, while the Discover® More® Card offers a 0% APR on balance transfers for 15 months, it does charge a 4% fee for online balance transfers. However, most credit cards that offer a 0% balance transfers now charge a 4% fee. Thus, with a 4% fee, you essentially pay 4% interest for 15 months. Compared to 10%, 15% or 20%, you’re looking at tremendous savings.

If you’re ready to apply, you can view the Discover® More® Card application here.
