The 0% APR Balance Transfer List

Below you will find a comprehensive list of credit cards currently offering a 0% APR on balance transfers for 1 year. We have highlighted the top offer, as this card provides the best overall value. The remaining cards are categorized by issuing bank. To learn more about any of the 0% APR balance transfer offers below, click the card name to review the terms and conditions. Due to current market conditions, Chase, Bank of America and HSBC balance transfer offers are currently unavailable.

The Best Balance Transfer Credit Cards

Currently, we only recommend the Discover® MoreSM Card for 0% APR balance transfers.  Our rationale is based on two key factors.  First, unlike credit cards issued by Citi or Chase, this card provides a 0% APR for a full year to all approved applicants. Citi and Chase both advertise a 0% APR for up to 1 year, but actually offer tiered pricing. Applicants may be approved for one of their credit cards, but only granted a 0% APR for as little as 3 or 6 months, based on a credit review. As credit card companies become more stringent with application standards, even consumers with very good credit are receiving credit cards in the mail with much shorter 0% periods then expected.

The problems that arise from tiered pricing are costly. For example, if you transfer a balance to a Citi card online, pay balance transfer fees, and then find out you will only get a 0% APR for 6 months, you'll essentially end up saving no money on interest during the course of a year. Such is not the case with the Discover® MoreSM Card.

  • Discover® MoreSM Card - Offers a 0% APR on balance transfers for up to 1 year, plus a 0% APR on purchases for 6 months to all approved applicants.

Additional Discover 0% APR Balance Transfers

All other Discover credit cards are currently offering a 0% APR on balance transfers for up to 1 year as well as a 0% APR on purchases for 6 months.

Bank of America 0% APR Balance Transfers

Due to current market condition, there are no Bank of America balance transfer credit cards available at this time. These offers may return in April of 2009.

Citi 0% APR Balance Transfers

Due to current credit conditions, Citi has removed most of its credit cards from the market However, the following card advertises a 0% APR on balance transfers and purchases for up to 1 year. However, this card offers tiered pricing. Thus, you may be approved and offered a 0% APR for less than one year.

Which Balance Transfer Credit Card is Best?

Sorting through a long list of credit card names is probably not the easiest way to find a good balance transfer credit card. However, by making the list available, we feel it gives our visitors a broad range of balance transfer choices. In our opinion, the Discover® MoreSM Card offers the best (and safest) deal. However, you may want to take a chance on a Visa or MasterCard offer. Our advice: Wait until your credit card arrives in the mail before doing a balance transfer. That way you can make sure you get a 0% APR for a full year. If you are given a short 0% period, come back to Smart Balance Transfers and try a different offer. Here is a short list of Visa and MasterCard offers that advertise a 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for up 1 year:

  • Citi® Platinum Select® Card - While this card offers a 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers, you may be approved and only offered a 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for 6 or 9 months.
